[West Nipissing, Ontario]
On November 27, 2019, the Municipality of West Nipissing kick-started the process in establishing a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWBP) by hosting a community roundtable event for key service providers. The session was a great success and made for a productive discussion around risks, resources and next steps towards a safer West Nipissing. Nearly 25 partners were present, representing emergency services and local providers in health/mental health, education, social/community services, and youth/children sectors.
As legislated by the Police Services Act, municipalities are required to develop a CSWBP to be put into place by January 1, 2021. This ambitious project will involve identifying our community’s risks and proactively developing and implementing evidence-based strategies to address our local needs. The next step is the formation of a multi-sectoral advisory committee that will lead the development of the plan. Once the committee is in place, it will focus on all facets of safety and enhancement of community well-being through four levels of intervention including Social Development, Prevention, Risk Intervention and Incident Response.
Stay tuned for future updates and possible community consultation opportunities.
